I haven't come across anyone doing a lot of roleplaying. The only place you have contact with random players is in towns/outposts. There are no designated RP areas. If this is a sticking point with you I'm sorry to hear it. The chat filters can be adjusted to limit what you see.
The game is smooth without a lot of grind. There are LOTS of quests (I have no idea how many, hundreds I would guess) however there are 25 main missions that follow the story line. From my experience alot of the quests also tie into the storyline they just aren't absolutely essential to the story line. The game labels the primary quests so you can tell. All explorable areas and missions are instanced so the only people you will see in those areas are yourself and your group. The difficulty varies according to the skill of the party/players. Check out the various guides available on this sight and the maps in the Cartography section. They can be very helpful.

No. I don't think you will ever see another person roleplaying in this game. And there are tons of people with names that will immediately break immersion just by reading them. The only naming policy is that names can't be vulgar.
Town chat is also littered with pointless chatter about everything that isn't GW.

Also are missions/instaces repetitive to the point of knowing which direction to go to find the item to win the mission? This is a big must not. MXO is like this and is the reason i quit.

The missions are all unique and fun the first time you play them.

One last thing, armor/weapon diversity and loot. Is there alot of armor loot or weapon loot?
|
There is no armor loot at all. There are items that you can use to add stats to your armor that are very rare drops, but no actual armor. All armor is from collector NPCs or crafting NPCs.
The weapon diversity is not that great. There are a handful of different weapon models for each weapon type, and you will see those drop the whole time with better and better stats as you go. Later on some new models will start to drop though. That's for bows/melee weapons. For staffs/wands so far I've seen only one type for each school. And again they just do more damage and add more energy as you get higher leveled.

The only time you're going to find people roleplaying is if you're in an RP guild.
However, this is pretty easy to do and it's VERY easy to disassociate yourself from other people. Just turn off auction and local chat in staging areas/towns and only group with guild mates. That should be fun enough =)

Roleplaying is possible. Depends on who you get with. Since everyone is on the same server its either they are or aren't. Either way there isn't any talk about politics. You can pretty well find people to play with often. Theres always someone looking for a quest to be done.
There is no PvP unless you enter an arena or something like that. They are always off to the side and you "enter" them if you want once your in the "group" area with a push of a button.
There is no armor to loot yet that I've seen. (Level 11 right now, ran around most of the wastelandish areas), but there are a lot of weapons that drop and shields. Once in a while you can find an item that unlocks skills for your PvP account to use.
Not sure on the repetitiveness of item placement in missions. Most of the time there is an arrow that gives you a direction to head in. Its the battle getting there and which routes you take that can make things interesting...
Overall, I'd say no, this game is not for you.
It >CAN< roleplay, but like I said earlier, there are thousands of players on the same server from all over the world. I view the game as a competitive setting myself, and from general town chat, no one roleplays unless they end up in a guild that does that. I'm sure if you check out the guild forums there will be some that are bringing in roleplayers that you could probley enjoy.
Overall, the game can be for you, you just need to make an effort to search out what your looking for.

Hm, on your scale I'd rate it so
Diversity - 5/5 for spells (450 different spells, ~75 per class + dual classing ~150 per character) 3/5 for visual costumisation
Roleplaying - can't comment on this
Graphics - 5/5 the graphics engine is not top of the line, but the art is excelent
Gameplay - 5/5
Content - 4/5
Combat Balance - 5/5 don't listen to those that say that warrior/monks are overpowered

Ya, right now there's only about 7 different types of armor per class, but you can mix and match or dye them. Mostly everyone in a class looks very similar though. There should be more armor and weapon types added as the game gets updated.
Spell effects... hmm, I can't say I've seen any that I would call spectacular. I'm sure the elite ones might be more impressive. Most are just quick small animations, more to tell you they are going off then to dazzle you. Like this skill:
Quote:
For 10 seconds, the area around target foe is bombarded with a rain of fire that strikes for 5-24 fire damage each second.
|
Sounds like it would have an awesome effect, but it's just tiny balls of fire that drop from like 10 feet up every second, not even an explosion impact.
Not to say they are bad, but I have seen much better effects.
Edit: That's true, there are tons of skills and spells to choose from, that's a big plus.

Yes that is nice. Does every spell have a different graphical effect?

I've just seen so many of those posts while ive been reading these boards. Finally i decided to register, and i actually do have a few questions about the game.
Do people roleplay their character? I cannot stress how much i want people to be in character at all times. It ruins my immersion to hear about Osama Bin Laden being caught or blah blah winning the super bowl. I might buy this game today im looking for a casual friendly game, which is more of a quest and missions then it is a grind. I DONT want to grind i want to play the storyline where on occasion i meet friends who travel with me to slay some beasts. I dont want a MMORPG i want to play pretty much Dungeon Siege Online.
|
I've yet to come in contact with another roleplayer. People are too focused on leveling and getting ready to pwn some noobs in the arenas.

Im not into "ganking" or "pwning" my enemy player/mob. Also are missions/instaces repetitive to the point of knowing which direction to go to find the item to win the mission? This is a big must not. The only diversity is the magical effects and the dyes you can put on them. Lots of the same items drop. And as for the direction of missions....there is a big waypoint that is put on your screen to show you exactly where to go. I hate it, I'd rather take my time and look for it then see an annoying green arrow at the top of my radar.

Well thanks for reading this feel free to post if u think this game is for me or not, but the main question is do people roleplay their characters alot?
Thanks

If you like to roleplay, have a challenge with quests and armor / weapon diversity, then this game is not for you. Sorry.

Content-2/5 Ick ick ick ick. All I have to say.

I'll tell you right now, the spell effects are more then enough for most people. You can sometimes pretty well tell what is coming at you or when a person is casting a spell. In PvP you don't want a wave of flame covering your body and all these other huge effects drawing attention to yourself. That would make the other group / team go "Uh oh" and rush over to kill you.
As a warrior prim, the warrior graphics are pretty good for each of the attacks I have. The monk ones, I hardly have time to really stop and look at what I'm doing in a battle of 10 angrey elementals bashing on my party to notice. LoL.
This game is more based around like I said (in my option) team and group competition. You can upgrade your toon in the "Roleplay" area, learn skills and stuff, then use those skills in the "PvP" area. You can select which you want to play in at the charater creation menu.
The world is HUGE with different climates for people to check out. Almost no matter what level you are, you will get a challenge in any zone from the start to the end. All depends on how you play your PvE.

Is it anything like LineageII? I hated lineage II with a passion. I would rather give my 50$ to a homeless guy then buy another Lineage II

No, nothing like L2. Nothing except for similar character design and graphics.
